CUSCO TO MACHU PICCHU 4 Days, 3 Nights CUSCO is the archaeological capital of South America. It has fine examples of Inca history and architecture including the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where the Incas made their religious celebrations, the Inca Baths with sophisticated canal systems, and the Kenko Amphitheater, the Koricancha Temple, narrow cobbled streets of the inner city and the remarkable "twelve angled stone". The city is rich in colonial heritage. San Blas Church, which remains much as it was during the colonial period, and was, built on top of Inca temples by the Catholic conquerors. Most of the churches are small and lovely and house marvelous works from the Cusco school of painting which features a mixture of Catholic and pagan imagery. The Cathedral, the Church of La Compania and La Merced Convent will all be visited. Altitude: 3,400 M., Climate: Usually sunny during the day, and cool at night, Sometimes rains Dec. to Mar. MACHU PICCHU, called the Lost City of the Incas, only discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, is of course the highlight of any visit to Peru, and all of South America The ruins consist of an enormous carved stone city hidden on a spectacular green mountain plateau surrounded by three towering peaks, while Llamas roam on its slopes. Legends about the origins of Machu Picchu are numerous, but there is still no definitive theory, which surrounds it with even more mystery. Archaeological restoration continues today, as they constantly find more artifacts. DAY 1:Early morning transfer from your hotel in Lima to the Lima airport for flight to Cusco. On arrival you will be met and driven to your Hotel. Rest before lunch (not included) to acclimatize yourself to the change in altitude. Afternoon fully escorted sightseeing of Cusco City, churches and monuments and the surrounding valley, including Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Kenkco and Tambomachay. Overnight in Cuzco. DAY 2: Early transfer from your hotel to the train station for an all day excursion by alpine train to Machu?Picchu, fully escorted sightseeing at the fabled lost City with professional, experienced guide. Overnight here in Machu Picchu Day 3: Morning free to explore Machu Picchu on your own, or climb the nearby Huayna Picchu for a great view of the ruins. Late afternoon train returns to Cusco and upon arrival transfer to your hotel for overnight. DAY 4: Transfer from hotel to the airport for return flight to Lima. End of services.
