Just 65 Km. further down the Pan American highway, is the center of the wine and Pisco production throughout Peru. The local regional archaeological museum houses an excellent collection of the ancient civilizations of Nazca and Paracas cultures, and also home of one of the finer resort hotels, Las Dunas, where you will be staying, as well as the and the Mossone at the Huacachina oasis. Nearby wineries can be visited or an overflight (included) of the famous Nazca line drawings (pictured above) are also available here.

NAZCA

Almost 450 Km. South of Lima, lies Nazca, 2,500 years ago the seat of a pre-Inca civilization highly advanced in both astronomy and ceramic art. Enormous figures of animals, birds and people etched in the desert sands hundreds of years ago, some as much as 300 yards long. They can really only be appreciated when seen from the air, and remain as testimony to the remarkable culture, and made famous today in books, TV, films and the National Geographic. The Maria Reich museum recently opened, now houses not only a complete collection and study, but also an excellent display and history.

Itinerary:

• NAZCA & ICA Tour (overnight Ica) (2 days/1 night) Leaves Lima daily.
• Day 1 After early morning pick-up at your hotel, you are transported by late model van, to the local bus station in Lima for the short trip along the Pan American highway to Ica. After an almost 2 hour drive, you will check-in at the Hotel Las Dunas for overnight here. Visits on your own are available to the local wineries (some of the best in South America), or to the Regional Museum.
• Day 2 After breakfast, transfer to the local airstrip, for a 45-minute over-flight (included) of the principal line markings near Nazca, including the Spider, the Monkey, and many others. Still not fully explained, these enormous designs made several centuries ago can only be observed from the air. Made famous in books, TV and movies, as well as featured in the National Geographic, this is a highlight of Peru, only 6 hours from Lima. After landing, back to the hotel for the bus trip back to Lima.
