Peru Jungle Expedition- 3 nights at
the Explorer's Inn Code AMJE
Day 1. Reception
at the airport, transfer to PS's office to prepare for the river trip and
boarding of our motorized dugout canoes. On occasions if the weather permits
it we will be driven in the bus for 30 minutes to an native community to
board the canoe, saving 2 hours of the boat ride. Depending on the time
we will have either a box lunch on the boat or lunch at arrival to the
E.I. During the trip we may see caymans, turtles and waterfowl, etc. After
approx. 3 hours we will arrive at the E.I. lodge where we will be received
with a welcome drink. We are now deep inside pristine rainforest and surrounded
by its sounds. After a short rest we will have a short hike to a small
lagoon and return in time to enjoy a jungle sunset at Sunset Point. After
returning to the lodge we will board the canoe for a short night ride to
spot caymans with flashlights on the river banks. After returning we will
have dinner, at which the Resident Naturalists (RNs) will be available
to answer questions or brief us on the Amazon rainforest.
Day 2. At daybreak
will we go with the canoe 5/6 hours further up the Tambopata river from
the EI deep into untouched Amazon rainforest with superb wildlife sighting
possibilities. We will pass waterfalls, wonderful sandy beaches with swimming
oportunities, interesting basalt rock formations and some gold panning
sites. Box lunch on board. Late in the afternoon we arrive to the Macaw
Claylick or Colpa de Guacamayos. This is a 200 m red soil cliff where,
for still unknown reasons, hundreds of macaws and other parrot species
converge every morning and afternoon to feed on the mineral rich soil in
an unforgettable spectacle of color and sounds. We will camp at a beach
close by and have dinner at camp.
Day 3. Early morning
Colpa experience. Return to the EI to arrive in time for lunch. Ocasionally,
when the level of the river allows it, we might make a short side trip
to a saltlick at another small river. Dinner and overnight at the EI.
Day 4. After an
early breakfast, guided by one of our RNs, we will start a 3 ½ mile
hike to Cocococha oxbow lake. On the way we will observe exotic plants
and insects, colorful butterflies and birds, monkeys and, with luck, perhaps
even some of the large mammals. At the lake canoes will be available for
a ride around the lake to watch the wildlife on the shoreline. Return to
the EI for a late lunch. Afternoon free for relaxing or independent activities.
Dinner.
Day 5. Very early
wake up and breakfast. Boarding of the canoe to return to Pto. Maldonado
watching an unforgettable dawn on the Tambopata river. Transfer to the
airport for return flight. End of tour.

majeur. Peruvian Safaris S.A. reserves the right to modify or withdraw
any tour arrangements when deemed necesary in the best interest of the
client. The right is reserved also to accept, retain or refuse any person.
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR GUESTS:The
following notes have to be kept in mind by all clients interested in visiting
the Explorer's Inn in order to avoid delays in Puerto Maldonado and unnecessary
annoyances to themselves or other guests due to not being duly informed.
Passenger list: It
is necessary that we receive as early as possible the full name, sex, age,
citizenship and passport number of all passengers or members of a group.
This list is indispensable to present to the marine authorities at least
24 hours in advance in order that they issue the sailing permit for every
boat leaving the docks with tourists. to apply for the permit the same
day can delay the departure by a minimum of 2 or 3 hours.
Luggage: We can not
avoid that clients bring along with them all their luggage, but it is very
important that they know in advance, that due to limited space in our canoes,
they can take with them only one (1) small suitcase or rucksack.. The excess
luggage must be left in our Puerto Maldonado office. Clients often get
very angry when they learn about this at arrival. Also is it important
that they bring with them the small suitcase or rucksack already prepared
for the trip, as the departure is again unnecessarily delayed when they
do this in our office.
Clothing: Guests should
arrive to Puerto Maldonado duly dressed for the trip and not start to get
dressed at our office, what has also been cause for delays and annoyance
by the other passengers. Also is it important to keep in mind to bring
some warm clothing for chilly nights and mornings which are not infrequent
even in the Amazon rain forest.
Rubber boots in large
sizes: Though we normally have at the Explorer's Inn regular size boots
available for most of the guests, due to that big sizes # 10 plus are impossible
to find locally, we, occasionally have these not in stock for large persons
who often complain and get upset for what they consider an unfair treatment.
In order to avoid this discomfort it is better that guests, in need of
oversize boots, bring them along with them. We will be most happy to buy
them when they leave for our stock at cost if they show us the invoice.
or otherwise at US$ 10.00 the pair if they don't.
Boats to and from the
Explorer's Inn: Though normally the airline's flights arrive and depart
with only a few minutes difference, guests should remember that not being
our services our only one boat a day will do the trip either way and ,
for this reason, they cannot claim that Peruvian Safaris provides an extra
boat, if, for any cause, one of the flights is delayed and they have to
wait until the second flight arrives or, if they have to get up and leave
the lodge earlier than necessary to take their return flight.
